How to fix your business listing on Foursquare

Part of the NAP audit fix guides · Updated 2026-10-17

Foursquare matters less as an app than as a data supplier: its Places database feeds Uber, Snapchat, Samsung and many other apps and maps. The consumer City Guide app closed in December 2024, but venue data lives on in Foursquare Places and the Swarm app, and NAPCHKR reads it through Foursquare's Places API.

Claim the venue

  1. Open Foursquare Support's Claiming a listing article and follow its link to the business search portal.
  2. Search for your business by name and location, confirm it is the right venue and choose Claim.
  3. Complete the claim form with your contact details and your role. Foursquare has historically charged a small one-time fee for instant verification, with a free but slower alternative.
  4. If the venue is already claimed by someone else, you will be told immediately; contact Foursquare support to have management access transferred.

Edit the details

Once the claim is approved, open the venue in your business dashboard and edit the name, address, phone, website and hours. Save, and allow a few days for the change to propagate.

If you would rather not claim the venue, open it in the Swarm app or on foursquare.com and choose Suggest an edit. Suggestions are reviewed by Foursquare and its community; edits from established accounts are accepted faster.

Common problems

  • Several venues for one business. Suggest an edit on each extra venue and flag it as a duplicate, or ask support to merge them once you have claimed the main one.
  • The venue is at the wrong spot on the map. Drag the pin when editing. Delivery and ride-hailing apps that use Foursquare data send drivers to the pin, not the text address.
  • Changes do not reach other apps. Apps that license Foursquare data refresh on their own schedule, often monthly. Fix the venue once and give it time.

Check it worked

When the change is live, run a fresh NAP audit. The Foursquare row should read Matches; if it still shows a difference after the review period above, open the listing from the row and compare it against your Google Business Profile. A ≈ next to a field means a small formatting difference the audit noted but did not count.
