How to fix your business name, address and phone on Yelp
Yelp carries more weight than most directories, both with search engines and with customers who check reviews before calling. NAPCHKR finds your Yelp page through Google search results and compares the details Google shows for it, so once you fix the page it can take a few days before the audit sees the change.
Claim the page if you have not already
- Go to biz.yelp.com and search for your business by name and location. Pages that have not been claimed show a Claim button; you can also open the page on yelp.com and look for Claim this business.
- Create a Yelp for Business account using an email on your business domain.
- Verify by phone call or text to the number on the page. If that number is wrong, Yelp offers email verification, and in some cases a postcard.
Edit the details
- Sign in at biz.yelp.com and open Business Information. In the Yelp for Business app, tap Biz Info.
- Choose Edit next to the basic information and correct the Business name, Address, Phone and Website.
- Save. Phone and website changes are usually immediate; name and address changes are reviewed by Yelp moderators and can take a few days.
What to watch for
- Public edit suggestions. Anyone can suggest an edit to a Yelp page, and the suggestion is often applied. Check the Suggested edits in your Yelp for Business inbox and reject the wrong ones.
- Legal name versus trading name. Use the name customers know and that appears on your Google profile. Yelp will not accept added keywords or city names.
- Service-area businesses. You can hide the street address and show the service area instead, which is also what Google does, so the two stay consistent.
- Duplicate pages. Open the duplicate, choose Suggest an edit, then mark it as a duplicate of your page, or contact Yelp support from your business account. If the old page has reviews, ask Yelp to merge rather than remove it.
- You moved. Update the address on the existing page rather than creating a new one. For an ordinary move Yelp keeps the page and its reviews. If the move substantially changes the business (a restaurant in a new space with a new feel, for example), Yelp's guidelines on substantial changes can give the new location a fresh page without the old reviews, so ask Yelp support before you edit.
Check it worked
When the change is live, run a fresh NAP audit. NAPCHKR finds your Yelp listing through Google search results and compares the phone number Google shows for it, so the row should read Phone matches with no duplicate flag. Name, address and website on Yelp are not compared automatically: open the listing from the row and check those by eye. Google can take a few days to re-crawl the page after you edit it.
